The trail begins and ends at Miradouro da Caldeira. In this place you can observe the only volcanic caldera of the island and the typical vegetation of the Laurissilva forest.

Start and finish the trail next to Miradouro da Caldeira, one of the most beautiful in Faial, going through the perimeter of the Caldeira. Located in the central part of the island, the Caldeira has a diameter of about 2 km and an average depth of 400 m, being covered by lush Laurissilva vegetation.

This is a caldera that resulted from successive phases of abatement of a volcano with 410 thousand years of age and whose last eruption occurred only 1000 years ago. At the bottom is a cone resulting from this last eruptive phase that closely resembles the shape of the island of Faial.
