Descent of the Caldera
€ 55.00
Overview
The trail begins and ends at Miradouro da Caldeira. It descends to the bottom of one of the most spectacular and largest volcanic calderas of the archipelago, where you can find, in perfect condition, the natural vegetation of the Azores.
On the way down to Caldeira you can see all the abundant exuberance of the humid Laurissilva that you find in this caldera, one of the best places in the Azores. This is one of the most precious strongholds of the archipelago’s natural flora, inserted in the caldera of a volcano with an area of about 330 ha. Given the need for conservation of the natural values present in the Caldeira do Faial, with emphasis on the geological, biological and landscape singularity of this site, the Regulation of Access to the Caldeira was created. Under this regulation, the maximum capacity of this route is 12 visitors, always accompanied by a guide certified by the Faial Natural Park, and can be performed up to three descents per day.
